Decided to walk down to Tony's on a Sunday while visiting San Francisco. For whatever reason, I showed up early - and I was glad I did. There was a line 1/2 block long and I arrived 10 minutes early before the place even opened! Soon, the line was practically down the end of the block. I figured - wow π² this place must be amazing! I was seated at the bar which was fine. Bartender greeted me pretty quickly and provided me a menu. The menu was pretty extensive. I decided to try the gluten free deep dish Detroit style pizza with sausage. It took over 45 minutes to receive the order. The pizza was very average. I honestly don't think sausage was even on it unless it was so finely ground that it melted into the crust. The crust was dense and chewy and honestly felt overcooked. Overall, I felt it wasn't worth the $27 I spent. I did like the atmosphere; it was very busy with a lot of activity and conversation among patrons. Nonetheless, I would go back next time I'm in SF and try something else to see if my opinion improves.

Tonyβs Pizza definitely lives up to its reputation for quality. The fresh ingredients really stand out, and the New Yorker pizza was outstanding. The crust was perfectly cooked with an incredible crispness that gave every bite great texture without being overdone. You can tell they take pride in using high-quality ingredients. The service was very friendly, although it was a bit slower than expected. It almost felt like our table was just outside our waitressβs usual service area, so there were a few longer waits than weβd have liked. The prices are what youβd expect for California, but the quality of the food makes it worthwhile. If youβre looking for exceptional pizza made with fresh ingredients and a perfectly crispy crust, Tonyβs is absolutely worth a visit.

It was a great pizza restaurant in San Franciscoβs little Italy neighborhood. It is rare to find coal-fired wood style pizza these days and they have it. We had garlic breads and the coal fired wood pepperoni thin crust pizza. It was delicious like New York pizza and the portion was generous. The server was attentive and friendly and the restaurant is warm and vibrant. Please make sure you join their waitlist on line beforehand and check-in with them when you get there.

Tony's Pizza is an icon in the pizza world. They are rated as one of the top pizza spots in the entire country, and for good reason. Instead of focusing on just one style, they feature a wide variety of pizzas to pick from including New York, Detroit, and coal fired options. I'm a sucker for a good New York pie, and I found theirs to be delicious and absolutely massive. The garlic cheese bread was also tasty, and came with a delicious agave dipping sauce that I've never seen before but became a big fan of. The food does take a while to come out, but it's worth the wait. Service was super friendly as well. Also, heads up that they get super busy regardless of the day and time that you visit. I highly recommend getting on the virtual wait-list way before you arrive in order to save yourself potentially well over an hour of waiting for a table.
